I have had a gum graft rejection.
white cell, red blood cell count in normal range
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
It is understandable to be concerned about any change in reading but they would have to be taken in context.
Though change can be important, more important is the normal range
The white cell count is still in the normal range, the upper limit of most labs is 10 or 11. This means that your value of 5.5 is still quite normal.
Basophils are a type of white blood cell so they are not interpreted on their own but Along With the total white blood cell count.
Basophil count most usually reflects allergies though there are other causes. A slight increase may indicate an allergic response.
The red blood cell count is also in the normal range for most labs.
RDW measure the variation in volume or size of the red blood cell i.e looks at the different sizes of the red blood cells in the sample.
RDW may be changed if types of anemia are present. It is normally interpreted with other part of the complete blood count such as the Hb and MCV.
You would need to look at the Hb to see if it is normal. If it (the HB) is significantly low, it means that you may be anemic.
Increased RDW with low mcv may sometimes occur with(1) iron deficiency (low iron ) anemia ,
(2)sickle cell b thalassemia.
Increased RDW and high MCV: (1)folate or vitamin b12 deficiency ,
(2)liver disease,
(3) immune related hemolytic anemia (the blood cells are breaking down)
Increased RDW and normal MCV: (1)early iron or folate and vitamin b12 deficiency
(2)dimorphic anemia- a combination of two type of anemia
(3)sickle cell disease
(4)liver disease
