Question: My father-in-law is having protein S deficiency problem and he has already undergone the Angiojet treatment in his heart as well. Currently he is taking Warf tablet to control the limits in blood. But he used to feel tired frequently and sometimes he is feeling that his body is cold than usual. So we are very much afraid about his situation.

Please refer the attached reports and suggest the kind of specialist whom we should contact for this kind of Protein S deficiency? Also, please share some useful information on this problem. Thanks a lot.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX Welcome to HealthcareMagic,
I've gone through your query and understand your concern for your father-in-law,

Yes, I've reviewed the reports, which were most likely indicative of Protein S-deficiency...

Protein S is basically part of anticoagulant proteins that regulate the normal coagulation mechanisms in our body. So when the deficiency occurs, it makes the affected person prone to clot formation inside the blood vessels. It may be due to hereditary or acquired. At his age, if it's a newly found anomaly, then it may or may not be hereditary. If acquired, then also further investigations are needed to be carried out to find out the cause behind this. This is a rather exhaustive and complex process, so I've made it in an extremely brief manner for your better understandings...

Now the basic preventive treatment is in the form of anticoagulant supplementation, which he's already being put on(Warfarin tablets)...

The frequent tiredness, feeling more coldness of body than usual, may or may not be related to this (can be due to poor blood circulation/poor cardiac fuction/veno-arterial structural abnormalities to name a few)...

This is a complex situation and needs thorough sets of investigations, strict monitoring as well as time to time follow-ups under his Cardiologist(Interventional) as well as a Hematologist(for further workups and management of the suspected Protein S deficiency)...

Don't worry, but follow this step by step process, and make sure he stays under the strict supervision of the hematologist as well as the cardiologist for further evaluation and management...

Take Care
Kind Regards
