Question: Respected Sir,
My son was suffering from viral fever that persisted for 6-7 days. He took below medicines for 5-6 days.
i) Syp P-250 (paracetamal)
ii)Syp Maxtra (cold)
iii)Syp Taxim-o-forte (antibiotic)
As fever continued for long time (7 days), my son underwent CBC and Perpheral Blood Smear Examination tests.
I have attached the reports. Kindly have a look at it and please advise if I need to concern for any thing in the report. Thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:
Not a cause for concern.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query as well as the attached report. The report is indicative of a viral infection and is not concerning. You need not worry.

Viral infections need not be treated with antibiotics. Antibiotics do not have any role to play here. It is simply a bad practice to prescribe antibiotics unless investigations speak in favor of bacterial infections (raised WBC count, raised neutrophil count, raised C-Reactive protein level, raised procalcitonin etc.).

Let me know if I could help further.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. Sorry for not being able to respond faster.

Hypochromic microcytic anemia indicates iron deficiency anemia and calls for iron supplementation.

The liver function test report is within acceptable range.

The funny part with viral infections is that they hardly cause any changes in any investigation report and hence the diagnosis is rather by exclusion. There would be no specific tests that will give definite indication that it is a viral infection.

Feel free to write back.
