Question: please doctor, I am chronic hepatitis b patient, I was given lamivudine 150 mg twice daily last one year ago by our family doctor for about for months. later I was asked by hepatologist to stop the lamivudine because my results shows undetectable hep b DNA and negative e antingent. But my recent result shows negative e antingent, normal ultrasound scan and some elevated DNA and LFT. please find attached copy of my reports on DNA and LFT. please doctor do I need to start treatment now.

note: My ALT was 77 u/l as at last 11 months ago, but now has improved to become 42 u/l.

Brief Answer:
I Would not start taking medications as you have good improvement.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Welcome to HCM.

Looking at your scenario, I would not start the medication. I believe that you got good treatment in the past for it and your lab values are testament to that.

Your LFT's are improved. Your negative "e" antigen is also good. Please note that since your hepatologist told you to stop this medication, a discussion with him/her would be more prudent before starting any treatment for hepatitis B.

I hope that this helps you out, good luck and thank you for your question.
