What Do These Following Pathology Lab Results Indicate?
Question: "Squamocolumnar mucosa with changes consistent with reflux esophagitis"
"Negative for intestinal metaplasia or dysplasia"
That was in the pathology report that i got after my endoscopy for a lot of scid reflux. Can you please explain what that means to me? Should i be taking any measures and is this "change" reversable?

Brief Answer:
Reflux esophagitis is a complication of GERD.
Detailed Answer:
hi.
Thanks for posting query at HCM.
"Squamocolumnar mucosa" or Z-line is a point where esophageal mucosa
( squamous) meets gastric mucosa ( columnar).
"Reflux esophagitis" means that inflammation is observed at this junction point and is consistent that GERD ( acid reflux) has caused it. metaplasia and dysplasia are premalignant lesions and if both these lesions are negative, its is a good sign.
You need NOT worry.
reflux esophagitis is reversible provided your compliant with medication and/OR diet plan advised by your treating physician.
hope to answer your concern
further questions are welcomed
