Question: Microbiologist: Hère is a picture of my nose (left) and throat (right) culture. I would like to Know what type of bacteria colonies it looks like and what would be recommended for treatment. Thank you very much
Brief Answer:
Nose and throat culture
Detailed Answer:
The culture looks like colony of Group A Streptococcus (GAS) organism.
You have to take warm saline or betadine gurgle twice a day for 3 days. Group A Streptococcus is usually susceptible to amoxicillin/clavulanic acid (e.g Augmentin). If you are allergic to penicillin group of drugs, alternative is macrolide group of antibiotic e'g Azithromycin . Antibiotics are to be taken for 5 days. These are all prescription drugs to be obtained from physician and show the culture & sensitivity report as & when available to adjust the appropriate antibiotic as per sensitivity
