What Do Water Filed Blisters On Fingers Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 3 Dec 2014
Question: Hello,

I have had little water filed blisters on my fingers that were itchy. I asked about it before and was told by one of your doctors that it was probably a type of excema. It has taken another aspect recently (it vomes and goes). Still itches and burns and bleeda at times. Is cortisone cream (hyderm 1%) okay for this? Been using it for a couple of days and it remains the same. I am sending you a picture of the worst finger (sorry, it is the middle one:)

Brief Answer:
Itchy blisters on fingers

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
It seems you are having Pompholyx .
Pompholyx presents as recurrent crops of deep-seated blisters on the palms and soles, fingers. They cause intense itch and/or a burning sensation. The blisters peel off and the skin then appears red, dry and has painful fissures (cracks)-bleeding at times.
Cool compresses-soaks or compresses using weak solutions of Condy's crystals (potassium permanganate)will dry up blisters.
Emollients or hand creams, eg. dimeticone barrier cream, should be applied liberally and frequently to keep the skin soft.

Topical steroid-potent topical steroids (e.g.Mometasone furoate) should be applied to the affected areas nightly under occlusion (e.g. covered with food wrap) but should not be used for more than two weeks. They help reduce inflammation and itching.
Hyderm 1%(1% Hydrocortisone) cream is CLASS 7—least Potent topical steroid.

Brief Answer:
Hydrem 1%

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Hi,
Your skin lesion did not respond to Hyderm 1%(1% Hydrocortisone) cream, because it is not a potent topical steroid cream. There are seven classes of topical steroid of decreasing potency and Hyderm 1% is at the bottom group of class 7. Hence you are advised to use a more potent topical steroid e.g. Mometasone furoate cream locally. Hyderm 1% is good for some other skin condition.
so you can ask about this to your doctor or primary doctor or a dermatologist.
