What Does CIN 1, CIN 2, And CIN 3 In A Cervical Biopsy Indicate?
Question: I just got my results back from a cervical biopsy and it shows that I have CIN 1, CIN 2, and CIN 3. I am positive for high-risk HPV but the 14 strains they tested for I tested negative for. So, my doctor doesn't know what strain I have. Anyhow, a year ago I had a clean pap smear along with the past 20 years. Since I went from everything being fine to having CIN 1, 2, and 3 on different parts of my cervix does that mean the chances of it turning into cancer are greater since the change happened so quickly? My doctor is recommending the LEEP procedure but she said I would be completely under anethsetia. I haven't found that on the web. All of the information talks about local anethsetia for the LEEP procedure. Does that mean what she is doing is more invasive because there still might be a chance that it will show up as cancer? Also, I have only been with my husband my entire life (for the past 22 years). I have not had any other boyfriends/partners etc.
Brief Answer:
Dont worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing..
I understand your concern..
Yes, it would be better to undergo LEEP.. May be the doctor preferred general anaesthesia so that all the lesions can be treated completely without leaving any residue.. Pain will be less with GA..
CIN3 has a greater chance of turning into carcinoma insitu.. So a good LEEP with a cancer free border helps to prevent recurrence..
Since you have a single partner HPV virus could be the cause of your cervical lesion.. Avoid intercourse till lesion heals completely.. Get pap smear repeated every 6 monthly till 3 smear is negative.. Then follow up yearly..
Hope I have answered your query.. Feel free to ask any doubts.. Good day..
