What Does "Hepatomegaly Cause Fatty Infiltration.." Mean?
Is there a reason to worry?
Control of risk factor & regular follow up needed
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
The ultrasound report tells that there is hepatomegaly with fatty infiltration in liver.
Fatty infiltration is a reversible condition of the liver caused by various diseases.
Common diseases leading to fatty infiltration are alcoholism, non-alcoholic liver disease, diabetes mellitus, obesity, malnutrition, starvation etc.
If any of the above mentioned risk factors are present, e.g. alcoholism, it has to be stopped immediately.
Inability to stop the risk factor will lead to progression of fatty change which eventually becomes irreversible and thus can cause chronic liver disease with compromised liver functions.
The other finding - BHP grade 2 refers to benign enlargement of prostate.
BHP is a non-neoplastic enlargement of prostate common in elderly males.
When BHP becomes symptomatic (urinary symptoms appear) the enlarged prostate has to be surgically removed.
There is nothing to worry but a regular follow up and serum levels of PSA have to be done.
PSA is done to monitor the enlargement of prostate and to look for any evidence of malignancy in the prostate.

2: What precautions should be taken to avoid further problems?
3: I read somewhere over the internet that enlarged liver can also be due to tumor or cancer. Does it becomes apparent in the ultrasound or do we have to undergo another test for it. If yes, what kind of test.
Many thanks.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,
In the absence of alcoholism, the conditions is termed as non-alcoholic steato-hepatitis (NASH).
Other causes like diabetes mellitus, malnutrition, starvation, certain drugs, toxins, etc are responsible for the fatty liver disease.
You need to consult a gastroenterologist for clinical assessment and management of fatty liver.
A growth or tumor will become evident on ultrasound.
However, in your case it is probably the fatty liver responsible for the liver enlargement and not any malignancy.

Any particular precautions you would like to suggest based on both sugar and liver reports?
