What Does SGOT Level Of 45 Indicate?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Probably not, but it depends on your medical history
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
SGOT is an enzyme that may rise when muscular (like the biceps, triceps etc but also the heart muscle) damage or liver disease occurs. There are some other less common causes but the most important and frequent are the ones I mentioned.
If you don't have any medical history and you're healthy and these tests were done for primary prevention (which means that you had no medical conditions but you just had a check-up done) then this is most likely caused by muscular "damage". Were you working out before the tests? Strenuous or protracted physical activity may make this enzyme to rise.
45 is a very low value though and you shouldn't worry too much about it.
If you had symptoms or other medical conditions that I should know, please use your follow-up questions to inform me. Having such information would help me give you a more personalized answer.
I'll be waiting for your input.
Kind Regards!

Thanks very much. I have a history of alcohol abuse, and went to urgent care with high blood pressure. I have been lifting weights very aggressively for the last 4 months. Was worried about the liver values. Thank you for the response. It is reassuring.
Thanks

Probably the weights
Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
the weight lifting is probably the cause of this finding.
Alcohol abuse may also cause the transaminases the rise (SGOT and SGPT) and SGOT has twice the value of SGPT in that case. If you had SGOT elevation in the past (when you drunk alcohol) then this could also be related to it.
In conclusion, I believe that the most likely cause of this elevation is your physical activity but a repeat measurement after stopping the weights for a couple of days would be helpful. Since you had the alcohol history, and ultrasound scan of the liver can also give important information about its condition.
Thanks of the input and thanks for asking!
Kind Regards!
