What Does A GGT Level Of 233 Indicate?
Question: Had blood work done. GGT level was 233. What does that mean?
Brief Answer:
Do you drink alcohol?
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about this high GGT value. This may mean that you have a problem with the liver or bile duct. This may also be caused by alcohol intake or drugs. If you do take any drugs or drink excess alcohol, we would need to revisit that and gets it right. However, if this was the only abnormal value and you have no symptoms or other worrisome issues to report, then I will suggest we control this test to make sure it was truly abnormal and we need to address it immediately.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Brief Answer:
Phenytoin can cause increased levels of GGT!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Phenytoin may be responsible for the increased levels as this is a known side effect. However, I will also like that you stop drinking beer until this problem is solved. My plan would be to first compare this with previous values and then do a follow up control. If no other cause but alcohol/phenytoin is a possible cause, then working on adjusting that would be done. Talk to your doctor about these suggestions.
I wish you well. Keep me updated.
