Question: Hi, my daughter just about to turn 1 years old had a lump appear late yesterday afternoon just above her bum hole right in the crack of her back side but from what I can see its external. It was not there in the morning after I had changed her nappie. It is a pink/red color and doesn't seam to bother her when I touch it, it is soft to touch almost like a blood bluster but instead of it being round or oval shape it is more cylindrical kind of, not sure if it is this shape because of the area it is and her buttocks squashes it to that particular shape. Could anyone please advise as to what this maybe?
Brief Answer:
It's a hematoma

Dear Ms
It's a small Perianal hematoma. There is absolutely no cause for concern.
Children have loose support in the peri anal skin and sometimes while straining the blood vessel rupture and can lead to small hematoma like this. I encounter several such kids every week and it regresses spontaneously after 1 week. In some of the kids there is associated constipation Which could be the underlying cause.
In only few case it can go for abscess formation.
As she is symptoms free There is no cause for concern. Would advise you the following
1. Hot seitz bath; to a tub of lukewarm water Add Handful of common table salt and place the baby in it for 15 minutes every time before giving Bath.
2. Local application of coconut oil after every stools.
Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.
Take care
