What Does A Mild Stroke In The Thalamus Indicate?
Question: March 2014 - My friend just had a mild stroke in the thalamus and I was wondering what the prognosis is. She is back home after 3 days and is forgetful and talking and walking slowly and has numbness on her left side.
In 2006 she had a heart valve replacement and takes Coumadin.
In 2007 she had a subdural hematoma and had to have surgery on her head and almost died.
In 2009 her stage IV breast cancer metastasized to her bones.
What is her prognosis from this latest mild stroke in the thalamus (from high cholesterol) combined with all of her other conditions?
Thank you for any information.
Brief Answer:
Late recovery is expected
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Dear you have to understand that stroke is healed by time. Medications are used to predict any other ischemic event! You need to discuss with her neurologist about starting neuro-protective pills such as piracetam or maybe memantine.
Stroke is a dangerous event at first days of the event and as much time pass better recovery is seen!
Patient with right thalamic stroke can have pain with left paralyses, so pain killers should be added in the future.
Don't worry your friend will be better.
Wish you all be best

How can she be better when she has stage IV breast cancer and she is taking Coumadin for heart valve replacement and has had a subdural hematoma and now a stroke?
She did get better from the subdural hematoma but a stroke is the opposite right?
Do you think that there is weakness in her brain?
Brief Answer:
Be patient
Detailed Answer:
Dear,
I know she has a lot of diseases.
You should know that cerebral events have a big risk at the time it happens and time after time recovery is expected.
My advice is to talk to your neurologist, start brain protector such as piracetam or memantine and physioteraphy.
Wish you all the best

Can someone die from having a mild stroke in the thalamas?
Brief Answer:
Stroke - cerebral comma
Detailed Answer:
Dear,
stroke is a very XXXXXXX at its first acut phase.
After the first acute event the patient is out of XXXXXXX after vital parameters are stable.
Anyway we are talking about a patient with a lot of other desease before stroke event so you should be happy that the most XXXXXXX phase has passed.
Such patient need care from their familiars to take their medicine and to encourage them to move.
Thalamus stroke can develop pain in the future weeks at paralysis side, the left one.
I really hope she will recover because she has passed at her life more XXXXXXX desease such as subdural hematoma.
Mild stroke can put the patient in cerebral comma which is a situation where the patient has lost all communations and movements that is the most XXXXXXX situation where stroke can put a patient.
You dont have to be worried, at nowdays stroke is treatable.
Hope that my answer wil help you.
Wish you and your friend all the best and early recover
Best regards
