Brief Answer:
Skin tests

Detailed Answer:
Dermatologists can perform a variety of skin tests to detect infectious diseases.

1 One example is skin scraping for fungal infections. These skin scrapings are studied under the microscope.

2 Woods lamp uses a special fluorescence to diagnose certain types of fungal and bacterial skin diseases

3 Dermoscopy is another helpful tool

4 KOH prep is used to detect fungal or yeast infections from skin scrapings

5 Fungal culture from skin samples is further used in identifying yeast or mold infections

6 A Tzanck smear is used to diagnose specific types of viral skin infections.

7 Sometimes they take full skin biopsies and send to HistoPathologists for a formal diagnosis. Special dyes are used to stain tissues obtained in biopsy, which help to make accurate diagnosis.
