Question: I've had a swollen vein that pops out in my armpit for about a month now. It's sore to the touch, and is irritated when I stretch my arm. I've tried taking Advil after getting my family physician to check it, but it hasn't gone away and there's a lump in it which hurts to touch. Any help with the possible cause would be appreciated!

Hi
I understand your concern regarding your skin problem and I hope I am able to help you in the same .
You have developed a painful mass in the axilla. Although the more likely causes of such a presentation are folliculitis , abscess or lymph node swellings, I would like to know why do you think it is a swollen vein.
In case you have been diagnosed with a swollen vein by your doctor, then I am afraid that it is a very serious condition and needs an immediate evaluation in the form of a doppler ultrasound of the blood vessels .
Please provide me more details of the lesions so that we can reach a definite diagnosis .
Since when do you have this problem?
Any associated fever?
What all are you applying over it?any other medicines that you are taking?
I would like to have a look at the skin lesions. It would be great if you can click some close up pictures of the skin lesion and upload them here on this page . You can also mail them at YYYY@YYYY with heading as ref to Dr Geetika Paul .
