What Does "accentuation Of The Interstitial Markings" Mean In A Lung X-ray?
Question: My lung x-ray came back with the following report:
There appears to be accentuation of the interstitial markings. with no focal pulmonary infiltrate and no pleural effusion.
Being late on a Saturday, it is too late to call the doctor, who wrote on the report, "Please see me about this."

Accentuation of interstitial,markings means that the various lines that are seen in a normal X ray with the lung body are a bit thicker and more conspicuous. Simple changes in environmental conditions like cold could explain this. It is very non specific and could be seen in normal persons.
No focal pulmonary infiltrate means there is no external body or focal point seen within the lung tissues. (this could mean absence of tumors and abscesses for instance).
No pleural effusion means there is no fluid that has accumulated in the cavity within the membrane covering your lungs. The lungs are covered by a double membrane separated by a space called pleural space. When the amount of fluid in this cavity becomes increased or enormous, we talk of a pleural effusion). In your case , it is absent.
With these, no worries for now. You can take your time to see your Dr without panic.
