Question : My alkaline phos is 162. Dr wants liver scan done. 2 years ago I had ehrlichiosis and was quite ill and in the hospital. My WBC dropped to 0.9. I have muscle pains and fibromyalgia type pain as a result of this. They believe I was bit by a tick in XXXXXXX What does the alkphos indicate? Why would it go up now?
Brief Answer:
Can be due liver or bone disease
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
Alkaline phosphatase can be from two sources. Any block to the biliary system raises alkaline phosphatase. This is the reason why your doctor wants an abdominal /liver scan. The other source is the bone. In conditions like osteomalacia, alkaline phosphatase may be high. This can produce boney pains also.
