Question: My husband had a good deal of blood in his semen after ejaculation. We've read online that this is probably nothing serious, but should we refrain from sex until this resolves?

Brief Answer:
meet a urologist

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX welcome to HCM and thanks for choosing us.

I share your concerns about your husband's illness. Let me assure you that in majority of the people reasons behind such bleeding are non serious. So in your husband's case too, it may be some mild infection or inflammation of urethra. Simple infections respond to a course of antibiotic very well.

But you have mentioned that good amount of blood, that's cause of concern. If blood is more and if it continues for many days, reasons need to be investigated. At this age (53 years) there are some problems with prostate or bladder which can be dangerous if ignored.

I would advise you to visit an urologist for examination. Urine study, scan of pelvis will be needed to come to a diagnosis. Based on that treatment can be planned.

I hope my reply will help you. Please contact us for more information and follow up queries. I wish good health to you and your family. Kindly rate this reply. Thanks
