What Does Blood In Urine After Food Poisoning Indicate?

Question: Hi,
I came down with food poisoning 04APR after eating spaghetti with meat sauce from a local deli. Diarrhea lasted for three weeks with several episodes of vomiting. My primary care supected E. coli; however, stool sample taken 12APR was normal. Since then the diarrhea has stopped but I have a queasy stomach after eating. I vomitted on the 23rd, 25th, and 26th of April and about three hours ago. Now I have blood in my urine. Urgent Care is closed for the night so I plan on seeing my doctor tomorrow. I say my doctor Friday who said there is not much left to do- perhaps see a gastroenterologist. The blood in the urine is a new symptom. Any ideas sir?

Dear Mr XXXXXXX

Coming to your present complaint of noticing blood in the urine. It is important to confirm it by getting Urine routine and microscopy examination done. Further workup will depend on the report.
Concentrated urine can also look like blood in urine.

If it's conformed that it's blood in urine. Following could be the causes
1. Cause related to previous diarrhoea: Infection with particular strain of E coli can cause post diarrhoea Hemolytic Uremic syndrome which can present as blood in urine along with decreased urine output

2. Cause unrelated to diarrhoea: It will require further evaluation by Ultrasound of abdomen

I would suggest you to consult your doctor and get a Urine examination done.
