Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes 'melanosis Coli Due To Laxative Abuse' In Colonoscopy Report?
Yes, they just reported that my colonoscopy showed melanosis coli from my laxative abuse. I told them there was a problem, I have never used a laxative other than what they give you for the test. I have multiple autoimmune conditions including Addison's disease. Would that have anything to do with it?
Melanosis coli is a harmless condition in which the lining of the colon and rectum, which is usually pink in color, turns a shade of black or brown. Addison's disease also may present mucosal pigmentation and pigmentation of palmar creases etcetera. But don't worry, get corrected with Addison problem, drink plenty of water, avoid smoking and caffeine drinks.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
