What Does Brownish Vaginal Discharge After Taking Postinor Indicate?
Question: I was taking my first set of birth control pills (minidoz), started taking the first pill on the 6th of my period and continued to take it to the 8th pill. However that night I had intercourse with my boyfriend and as I started taking the pill late I was very worrired. I then took the emergency contraception pill the morning after (Postinor) and stopped taking the Minidoz.
After 5 days (today) of taking the Postinor I am having lots of dark brown discharge. Is this normal? and when should it stop?
Also, I would like to know when is it possible to go back to eating the normal birth control pills as I want to start taking them as soon as possible. Can I start eating them straight away? I am planning to take the Diane-35 birth control pills instead.

Brief Answer:
You should restart birth control pills.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Yes, postinor can have bleeding as a side effect or cause irregular cycle. Bleeding can be spotted or it may last as a normal menstrual cycle (5 days).
If you are already taking another contraceptive pill you can continue to use this for regular contraception at the same time as taking your Postinor-1 tablets, as Postinor-1 is intended for use only as emergency contraception not as a regular method of contraception.
You shouldn't have stopped it, anyway you can restart it assap.
Hope the information is helpful.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta

So today I can start taking the Diane birth control pills today right? I dont have to wait for my usual menstrual cycle or wait for the brown discharge to stop to be able to start it? will it have the full effects?
Also, is the Diane birth control pills a good choice for birth control?
When is the best time to take the birth control pills? will it produce the same effect if I eat the pill the same time as dinner?

Brief Answer:
Hi again.
Detailed Answer:
There is diference between Diane 35 and Minidoz.
Diane 35 contains 35 mcg ethinylestradiol and cyproterone. The dose of ethynilestradiol is high and is not preferred in women with risk factors for: venous thrombosis, heavy smokers, those with hypertension, valvuar heart disesase, Diabetes, those with risk for breast cancer ect). But it contains cyproterone that has antiandrogenic effects and help to reduce acne or hirsutism if you have.
While, Mminidoz contains 15 mcg ethynilestradiol and 60 mcg gestodene (progresterone), means that has lower side effects caused by high estrogen.
Ususally it takes 7 days for the birth control to be effective.
So you should discuss with your treating physician before you decide to change the Minidoz with Diane 35 and wait until the next menstrual cycle.
They should be taken at the same time each day (morning or night).
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta

I am very sorry for asking lots of questions TT but I really want to get the best results possible.
So, should I start eating the contraceptive pills today or wait until the next menstrual cycle? I want to have protection asap. I have already asked my physician when she gave me the Minidoz pills about using other brands of contraceptive pills and she said I was free to use any brand of the pills.
I really want to start taking them as soon as possible, therefore, will it be possible to start taking them today? The brown discharge has stopped too.

You are free to ask as far as you have still queries.
So, if you want to continue the minidoz, you can start taking it today.
If you decide to change and take Diane than you should wait the next menstrual cycle.
But i would suggest, before starting Diane (having into consideration the high amount of estrogen that contains) you should consult a physician to exclude contraindications (for eg, if you have family members diagnosed with breast cancer, high cholestrol, venous trombosis ect, you should not take it).
Feel free to ask at any time if you have questions or queries.
Best wishes,
Dr.Mirjeta

Do I start taking where I left off of the set that I had already started (resuming to eat the 9th one until I finish the set) or do I start a new set? will it have a good effect after I stopped it for too long?
After finishing this set can I change to Diane straight away if I have received an okay from my physician?

Brief Answer:
Wait for the next cycle.
Detailed Answer:
If you are convinced for Diane, i would recommend not to take pills and to wait for the next cycle.
Meanwhile you have met the physician in person and until than use other contraceptive methods.

Dr.Mirjeta

This morning there was some discharge but it is not longer dark brown but it is dark reddish-brown. However, there is only a little bit at the moment and I am not sure how much is going to come out during the day. Is this considered my period? My last period was around 1st-5th of November.

There was a lot of blood after that therefore I was sure that it was my period. However, after considering and thinking about your advice I decided not to take the Diane pills anymore and started taking the XXXXXXX pills instead.
However, after eating the first pill yesterday in the morning I started to vomit (around 7 hours after consumption). I am planning to change to eating Yaz instead as there is lower hormone levels. Can I start eating the first pill of Yaz today? or should I wait until my next cycle, but I had only eaten one of the Diane pills.
I am so so sorry for asking TT

Brief Answer:
Yes you may start Yaz.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Yaz contains 20 mcg ethynilestradiol (lower than Diane 35).
If you have taken only one tablet of Diane than you may start Yaz the next day.
There is no interaction.
Wish you good health.
Kind regards,
