Question: Hi, My age is 34. my height is 165 cm and weight is 79. From last three months i controlled my weight from 89 to 79 by limiting the food. I didn't observed big difference on my body but , if I made late to have food 30min - 1 hr also my body was shivered(i couldn't stand ). I thought it was bcoz of dehydration. But my family members suggested me to meet doctor. Even my neck color also changed to black. Then I met the local doctor and tested B/Breakfast the sugar levels were 190. After BF it was 298. Then doctor confirmed that I am having diabetis. Then he advised me to have the following tablets . Betavit , NovaGlim-2,cholecalciferol chewable tab 60000 IU insta K. Iam regularly taking the above medicine. After 1 week by having the medicine tested the sugar levels again. After/Meal :186 Even my father had the diabetis at the age of 50. But I dont have proper knowledge about it. Please tell me can i control my diabetis without continuing medicine and let me know the criticality? What kind of diet I need to follow ? I am worrying a lot bcoz I got the diabetis at the age of 30 + only. Kindly give suggestions to control my diabetis.

Brief Answer:
Lifestyle changes with medications, you will be fine

Detailed Answer:
Dear friend, Greetings from HCM, i understand your concern at early age. But not a problem, if you can change your lifestyle with medications in time you will definitely will be healthy.

First you need to get your lipid profile, thyroid profile, microalbuminuria and HbA1c checked. Also keep record of your fasting and post prondial glucose record every day for a month in your diary with a well calibrated glucometer.

Your medications are sufficient for time being if you are committed for lifestyle changes.

First stay away from all the fast / processed and fried food stuffs . Divide your meal in to 4-5 parts per day whenever you feel hungry. With 2/3 snacks in between. That helps to keep the sugar levels constant throughout the day. Add more of fiber rich food stuffs like green leafy vegetables, raw fruits (not juices), take very less of carbohydrates (rice) avoid sugar completely. Take Millets in boiled form or the breads prepared out of it like ragi, bajra, sorghum, wheat etc., are very good source of micronutrients required for the action of insulin. Take more of protein rich food, like egg white, fish is good source of omega 3 & 6 fatty acids. Moreover, beetroot juice (inorganic nitrate), olive leaves, garlic, termeric, tamarind also have proven benefits. Say no to oils and cholesterol rich food stuffs. Based on this, with the help of a dietitian, you prepare your diet chart and strictly follow it.

Physical activity is very important, play games, walk at least half an hour to one hour a day. This not only helps you to burn calories, but also to relive your stress. Music is another way to relax too. Try and practice yoga, meditation and pranayama. Some aasanas are very easy to practice and also beneficial. Quit smoking (if) and reduce your alcohol intake.

If u can follow these (have to!!) you can definitely see difference yourself by the time you have your next blood investigation report in three months time

Wish you good health. Do feel free to ask more queries. THANK YOU
