Question: Although I have never smoked, I have been diagnosed with COPD.
My latest chest X-ray shows "diffuse increased interstitial markings".
Can you explain what this means?

Diffuse interstitial markings are seen in interstitial lung disease (ILD).
COPD patients are at risk for ILD.
There is interstitial tissue between alveoli-alveoli and alveoli-blood vessels.
This interstitial tissue play vital role in gas exchange.
When interstium thickens, it becomes prominent on chest x ray and appear as increased interstitial markings.
HRCT (high resolution CT) thorax is best tool for the diagnosis of ILD.
So get done HRCT thorax.
