What Does Eosinophil Level Of 2.3 Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 30 Jul 2014
Question: Hello. I am a 42 female and am a bit concerned about my recent bloodwork. My eosinophil level is 2.3 (it says normal range is 0.0-.6) and my monocyte level is 12.4 (it says that normal range is 0.0-10%)
I was diagnosed with breast cancer last August and had a bilateral mastectomy. No chemo or radiation. Should I be concerned about these two things? The only other things that were outside of normal range were:

Red blood count : 4.01 (normal range 4.20-5.40) * was on my period
White blood count: 4.3 (normal range 4.8-10.8)
Hemoglobin POCT: 11.1 (normal range 11-14)

Thank you!!

Brief Answer:
Monocytosis due to possible mild inflammation

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am Dr. Jyothi BL and I would like to answer your query.

1. Eosinophil is within the normal range. Normal range is 0-6%.

2. Monocytes are mildly elevated and if there was increase of double or more, I would have suspected a chronic inflammation. It also occurs in resolution state of acute inflammation.

3. The RBC count is mildly reduced which you have attributed to periods - a state of endometrial shedding with mild inflammation, which can be attributed to monocytosis.

4. WBC count is a bit on the lower side, but according to literature, normal levels are 4-11k. It is normal

5. Your hemoglobin is normal.

With a lower count and normal hemoglobin, I think there might be development of early vit B12 deficiency anemia. Try to improve your diet with green leafy vegetables, fish, cod liver oil etc.

As most of them are normal, the present monocytosis can be attributed to mild inflammation during menstrual periods.

There is nothing to worry. Concentrate on improving nutrition.

Any further queries, happy to help again.
