What Does Headaches And Vomiting Indicate?
My wife has this very old problem : She often gets headache followed by intensive vomiting. However she feels relaxed after having expelled out everything out of her stomach. The problem is that there is no identified cause of this problem. She maintains her routine quite alike everyday however this problem pops up every now and then. She has history of this problem. I have consulted few doctors before as well however they have different opinion about this problem. Some say its related to hormones, some believe its gastric disorder. However we are anxious if why it happens so often. To let you know more :
a) She gets this problem sometimes even if she has taken normal non-spicy food. Hence doesn't look food related.
b) She is house wife now (we got married 10 months back) and stays back at home with minimal work to do. However she had this problem before getting married as well when she used to work a lot.Hence doesn't look lifestyle related as well.
Appreciate your advice on this.
Thanks in Advance,

MIGRAINE HEADACHE
Detailed Answer:
Welcome to HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
It seems your wife is suffering from Migraine headaches. The first foremost reason for my suspicion is that she has headache followed by vomitings. This usually occurs in Migraine. It's not that any acid reflux is causing her to vomit.
Migraine headaches have there pattern. They are usually unilateral, associated with throbbing, vomiting sensations, vomitings in some cases. many people also have photophobia and phonophobia.
Migraine headaches are precipitated by light, sounds, sleep deprivation and alcohol.
Once we are sure of the diagnosis, we start our patient on Migraine prophylaxis following which severity and slowly the frequency of attacks reduces. Drugs used are Flunarizine, Propanolol, Amitryptilline.
In acute attack of Migraine, Triptans and NSAIDs like Paracetamol, Ibuprofen are used.
In cases of vomitings, Domperidone is used.
So, share my opinion with your doctor. I am hopeful, he will agree to my diagnosis and will start your wife on Migraine prophylaxis.
If you have any further query, please ask me.
