Question: Hello, I picked up my CXR results from the office. I got a voicemail I was being referred to a pulmonologist but no further explanation. My copy of results reads severe Lucency at bilateral lung apices. While this may be in part technical. Consideration for pulmonary emphysema should be given. No focal abnormal airspace opacity in lungs. No pleural effusion. No pneumothorax. Heart size with in normal limits. Pulmonary vascularity appears normal. Impression: concern for pulmonary emphysema unless there are significant chronic health factors to account for this. If there is persistent clinical concern then pulmonary evaluation for congenital emphysema. I am 39 yrs old female. Never smoked, weight 115 height 5' 1". I do martial arts and hike. Eat healthy.. so I don't understand why I would have emphysema. I've never had respiratory problems. If it were congenital.. Wouldn't I have had problems as a child? Never had pneumonia or bronchitis or asthma in my life. Recent history... About 6 months ago I started having a vibration in my lungs only when I lay down and have Sob when I sit up. Also been having lots of uncontrollable palpitations which I finally took 2 baby aspirins and it actually helped for 2 days only. We did some construction in the house in January which resulted in breathing lots of construction dust/drywall sanding. Other than that... I am usually very tired throughout the day and feel sob going up the stairs at home or when in a rush. I understand I will need further evaluation for a diagnosis. Is there anyway the emphysema could be an error? And I may have a severe allergy or lung congestion from the construction? Thank for in advance for your input. Ps I do live in XXXX and there is a lot of sand, new home constructions and constant sand storms that aggregate asthmatics, etc.
