What Does Mucus In Stool Along With Constipation Indicate?

Question: I started to notice mucus in my stool and constipation and itching around my anus i tried preparation H the itching stop but the muchs is now green? 24/F

Im a 24 year old female and i last week i started feeling constipated with itching and bleeding around the anus and mucus in my stool i got otc medication preparation H to be exact the itching stopped when i applied the medicine and the bleeding stopped as well but the mucus has turned a dark green inside my stool and its not as much as i used too it only little turds

I understand your concern.You might have a severe intestinal infection with certain bacteria or digestion problems.Sometimes it could be due to green food you took like spinach or so.

You should go ahead and get a stool culture done and start a proper course of antibiotic such as norfloxacin and tinidazole .It could also be due to digestive problems also.Please do not neglect it.

It is important to see a doctor and get evaluated for the confirmed cause before it gets worse.

How does this happen? Is this common? It came out of no where it first started as white yellowish mucus then today it was green?

This infection can come from contaminated food or water.Sometimes infection goes in our stomach from our own hand.

So it is very important to follow hand washing before putting your hand in mouth.Mucous color depends upon lots of things.It is difficult to say which bacteria caused infection without proper culture.

What kind of test will be done in order to figure out the problem? And if untreated can it get worse? Also is preparation H good for anything or should i discontinue use? It helps the itching and the bleeding stopped.

Stool culture would be the best test at this time. You can observe for 1-2 more days ,but after that you should see a physician.

You can keep applying preparation H, this will help you from itching and bleeding.
But in case of any infection, this will not help you that much.
