What Does My ANA Result Report Indicate?
Question: I would kindly ask an oncologist to consult following matter: Should I look for some more detailed cancer search in my situation or consider myself healthy. I was tested for autoimmune autoantibodies (ANA) and the test came back positive; 1:640 nucleolar 1:320 speckled (lab norm: positive= 1:160+). No specific ENA antibodies. I have no symptoms of any connecive tissue disease or any other, normal capillaroscopy and all other test normal (blood count, ESR, CRP, liver enzymes, brain MRI, chest X-ray, abdomen ultrasound, gastric endoscopy, blood protein electrophoresis, neck, armpit and groin lymph nodes ultrasound), I feel healthy. My mother died of lupus/MCTD complications, her first cousin lives with lupus. I was told by multiple doctors (mostly rheumatologists) not to worry as this ANA result is familial with no clinical importance. Are they right? I am worried mostly of underlying cancer as I read that cancer can bring positive ANA of nucleolar pattern or is the familial explanation more likely?
Brief Answer:
No need to worry at all.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear.
Welcome to HCM.
I have read the details. First of all, do not worry at all.
In my clinical practice i have not read or came across any patient who has ANA positivity along with malignancy.
The association of ANA with malignancy is just a chance phenomenon. ANA positivity does not imply that the individual will develop cancer in future.
Rest assured. Live healthy life in the form of YOGA, exercises and take healthy food.
Thanks and regards
