Question: Am to begin carboplatin/taxotere tomorrow in XXXXXXX GA. Am in 4th year of cance, following neck resection, removal of lymphnodes, also tonsils (rt. tonsil origin of cancer) 11/26/13. Subsequently, left lower lung lobectomy removed softball-sized tumor at Vanderbilt Hospital, 6/15/15. Multiple lung tumors in both lungs as of 12/28/15, followed by course of taxol/carbo. All clear in May, but Sept., 2016, CT showed 4.5 cm tumor in liver. Grew to 9.5 cm by 2/2/17 and now 13.7 x 6.9 cm. Your site says taxotere not good for liver problems. WebMD and Mayo doesn't mention. Thinking about cancelling tx. What say you?

Thanks. Let me know what else you need to know.

Brief Answer:
CARCINOMA TONSIL

Detailed Answer:
Dear,

You had carcinoma of tonsil with neck node involvement and lung involvement which responded after surgery and chemotherapy and now liver involvement which is slowly progressing . Earlier paclitaxel and carboplatin chemotherapy was successful. Now the tumor has become resistant to this protocol of chemotherapy and you need to go for 2nd line chemotherapy.

I would recommend that if the liver nodule is solitary it needs to be removed either by radiosurgery or laser surgery and followed by second line chemotherapy. Alternatively intra hepatic chemo embolization.

In a nutshell, at present regime of taxol and caeboplatin are not helpful. Your doctor must be already aware about it and i am sure he will do the needful.

I hope your query is addressed.
Truly,
Dr. J. Ticku
