What Does My CT Scan Report Indicate?
Question: A friend of mine recently had surgery for colon cancer. A large tumor and part of his intestines was removed. Immediately afterwards he began having extreme back pain. At first the doctors said it was a pulled muscle. When the pain did not subside, he had a MRI that showed a compression fracture in the lower back. They plan to do a Ct scan of his whole torso. Could this fracture be caused by another tumor on his spine? Before the surgery, he had no other health problems. Is there any other reason that he would have a compression fracture in his back? He is currently taking chemotherapy.
Brief Answer:
Hello. Tumor related fracture is rare
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. I have understood the query and i appreciate your concern . So It is very unlikely that it is a second tumor of spine as tumor related fractures have different presentation on mri and are easily differentiated from compression fracture. Moreover, it cannot be metastases tumor from colon as colonic tumor usually do not give metastases to bone. Most likely it mat be a fracture due to weak bones and will heal by calcium vitamin d and drug called bisphosphonate.
Chemo needs to be continued.
Thanks and regards

That is such a relief to hear!! The only thing that worries me is that when they did the MRI they thought they may have see n something right above where the fracture was. It wasn't clear enough for them to tell what it was. So that's why they're doing the second Ct scan to look at his whole torso. At least your answer gives me some hope that it will be ok. Thank you.
