What Does My CT Scan Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Jun 2015
Question: hi, 2 yrs ago I had my left fallopian tube removed, it was filled with fluid and risk for bursting they said. recently i have had the same symptoms (pain, irregular bleeding), i went to the obgyn who did some more tests, i have a postive CA blood test and the CT showed my right fallopian tube is very swollen and filled with water. Obgyn said it needs to come out. I have an appt to have the tube removed in 2 weeks. Yesterday, the pain on my right is worse and more consistent, i have a clear unpleasant smelling discharge and my abdomen is getting swollen. Do i need to call the obgyn? is this going to get more painful until i get it removed? thank you.

Brief Answer:
Please consult gynecologist urgently to avoid complications like rupture

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. Having read through the CT scan findings, it is possible that you have developed a tubo ovarian abscess involving the right fallopian tube.

2. This condition occurs as a complication to pelvic inflammatory disease. CA blood test might be elevated due to infection.

3. Tubal abscess is an infection that has spread from the uterus to the tube. What happens is that inflammation occurs and the walls of the tube collect inflammatory fluid and later it starts to get sealed of slowly. The infection continues and fluid starts accumulating within the tube. If there is a severe infection then there is a risk of the tube containing the infection ultimately bursting and spilling over of the infection in to the peritoneal cavity and abdomen.

4. The rupture of a tubal abscess is a difficult complication and might become an emergency. The infection might spread to abdominal organs following rupture of such an abscess.

5. Since you are having an uncomfortable pain and discharge which is smelly, it is suggested that you consult the gynecologist and take precautions to avoid the development of complications like rupture.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Dr.Vivek
