What Does My CT Scan Test Report Indicate?

Posted on Sat, 23 Jul 2016
Question: Good day

a) A patient suffered one or more blows to the head on 30 Jun, 2016. Upon visiting local doctor with headache, patient's pulse is recorded at between 93-97 2-3 hours after the incident. A minor swelling is diagnosed on inspection on the left side approx 1" above the ear. A bearable pain noted when pressure applied to the swelling. CT scan is performed.

If the CT images are made available:

Would the swelling be able to be identified, if present?

b) There is a permanent indentation on the top center back of the patient's head which can be felt by touch and seen from a blow to the head approx. 1.5 years ago. Would assessment be able to estimate strength and nature of prior impact, e.g. punch, kick, implement, or, that this was more likely a result of?

What would cost and turnaround time be for such assessment?
Where to upload / share CT scan image(s)?

Brief Answer:
Use google drive to upload CT and post the link here.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

If you will upload the CT scan, there could be identified the swelling, indentation, and an estimation about the strength of the force can be done as well.

Awaiting for CT images......

Brief Answer:
Concussion.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

I examined the CT scans you uploaded.

There is actually a fracture of the outer table of the skull at back top of the head in the CT scan uploaded with Google drive ( 7-1-2016 ), that suggests that the force used against skull was a moderate one.

This fracture is probably responsible for the indentation you refer.

Subcutaneous temporal regions ( temples ) seems to be swelled right one more the left one.

I don't see any intracranial bleeding in other CT scans, so, don't worry much more than necessary.

These types of craniocerebral damages ( mostly concussion ) require approximately 2 weeks to subside.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Take care.

Good day Dr Spaho

Is it possible to highlight your findings on most prominent image(s) to complete the assessment?

Good day Dr Spaho

Please provide quote and payment method, should the highlighting requirement need more time than what would be considered reasonable to complete the CT assessment.
