What Does My ECG Test Report Indicate?

Posted on Wed, 29 Jul 2015
Question: I'm 26 years old. I was recently diagnosed with an enlarged heart. It happened almost a month ago and I was finding it hard to breathe, it happened for the first time and I went to the doctors immediately instead of ignoring it. They performed an Echo cardiograph and found out my right ventricle was enlarged a bit. The doctors said however that the value is not that big and it will recover with time and proper rest. They also found out that the valve of that ventricle was a little bit leaky. They told me that this was the result of my lifestyle as my physical activities were very intense and the rest period was way too low. I hardly got 3-4 hours of sleep everyday as I was stuck between a full time job and being a regular gym guy and working out. I was told to stop lifting weights and doing intensive workouts. I actually wanted to make a career in the fitness industry and what happened had put a big question mark for my future. I tried going to the gym again after 2 weeks of being discharged from the hospital. I spend about 45 minutes in the gym and was taking a day off in between. On my third workout when I got back home the next day I starTed having difficulty in breathing again however it got better on it's own when I layed down and had some rest. Please help me out with what I need to do now or is it just the heart or there can be some problem with my lungs?

Brief Answer:
Evaluate further and send your reports.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Most importantly I would like to have the echo report sent if possible so I can review it completely
Considering you have active lifestyle I do understand your trouble of not being able to live like before, but I assure you that with the right diagnosis and proper treatment it should be ok.

Only right heart being enlarged and that to with a short history. 2 important things we should rule out without any doubt is
1) any pathology in the lungs. A HRCT of chest is the best investigation in this case.
2) any blood clot being formed in the lung and travelling to the lungs.

The valve leak is secondary to enlarged heart, so if that reverse, the leak will go off

Some questions?
Are you taking steroids to pump up your body
Did you have any recent onset of immobisation where you couldn't move both legs
Any recent operation
Did you travel by air frequently.
Anything else you do apart from normal.

Correct and timely diagnosis is important in this case

Also attach all reports you sis during your doctor visit so I can guide you better.
Regards.

Thanks for such a quick response to my query. Regarding the questions you asked I used steroids for approximately 4 months. I started using them last year in mid of November for 3 months and took a break for 3 months then started using again in mid of may this year for a month making the overall usage period of 4 months. The compounds that I used were deca durabolin 250 mg/week and testosterone enunciated 500 mg/week. I also took energy drinks with high amount of caffeine in it. The doctors asked me to stop consuming them as well as they can increase blood pressure to a good extent. I have all the tests reports with me including 2 echo cardio graphsWhere and how should I send them to you?

Brief Answer:
You can upload on this forum itself, there is an option for uploading repo

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Both steroids mentioned do not really cause increased lung pressure, which I was concerned about as they may result in right heart problem, however many a times when you get them online or some cheap source there may be unknown impurities.
However I would like to ask you to stop using the. Till we sort this out.
You can send all the reports by uploading them on this very forum as there is a option of doing it or else you may email at YYYY@YYYY and address it to my name Dr Priyank Mody

HRCT with pulmonary Angio (it's a CT scan of lungs) , and pulmonary function test is one thing I will suggest of not done to rule out all about lungs.
If that's normal lung is not something we should be worried about.

Would wait for the report s

Thanks doctor I uploaded my reports in the reports section here. They took 2 echo cardiographs and generated the report of the last one only. However I've attached the images of both echos and the final report as well. I think my pulmonary function test was also performed and doctors said it's normal. However I have yet to do a CT scan of lungs. Thanks for keeping me updated. Please go through my reports as well. Thank you

Brief Answer:
Try repeating the echo at a different place, be reassured till than

Detailed Answer:
Hi , i went through all the reports . Plz be reassured all the blood investigations and pulmonary function test is normal . also i am sorry to say , but before you get the investigation repeat a 2d echo at a standard place because not all information is there in the echo like tell the person to do a complete right heart study , with dimensions , and quantify pulmonary pressures , maybe there might be a small mistake here and we fly all through the place searching for something when nothing really exists . If its still there a pulmonary angio with chest ct will cover 90% of relevant causes . D dimer if pulmonary angio is not possible
