What Does My MRI Scan Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 8 Dec 2014
Question: my latest MRI findings are that the C6-7 has a broad based posterior central herniation, which is causing attenuation of the CSF space anteriorly. I know the drill of trying all the other options first, I have already had a fusion of the c4-c6 discs due to degenerative disc disease. what I would like to know is how realistic is it that I can avoid surgery a second time and if I can't what kind of mobility will I have in my neck if I have to get another fusion?

Brief Answer:
Primary treatment is rest to neck and analgesics

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

After going through your query I concluded that you are suffering from broad based posterior central herniation disc of cervical spine at the level of C6-C7. Primary treatment of it by conservative methods.

I treat most of my patients empirically by below mentioning methods.
1. Heat and analgesics are soothing.
2. Diclofenac/ibuprofen can be effective but in this condition pain is severe so sometimes tramadol is given. Pain relief may take few weeks.
3. Rest to cervical spine(neck) is most important till pain is relieved. Cervical collar can be used to prevent unguarded movements.

As primary treatment of acute cervical disc prolapse is conservative so you can expand treatment by this method but initially pain is severe and may remain for many weeks.

You neck movements will be severely restricted after second fusion.

You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Wishing you good health.
Take care.
