MRI Finding
Visualized vertebrae show normal marrow signal and alignment. The conus medullaris is normal. Paravertebral soft tissues appear normal.
The L5-S1 disc shows loss of normal T2 signal with a moderate posterior-central protrusion. causing mild to moderate indentation of the thecal sac. There appears to be minimal indentation of the traversing S1 nerve roots, slightly more on the left. Exiting nerve roots are normal at this level.
Other intervertebral discs are unremarkable. Facet joints and ligamentum flavum do not show any significant hypertrophic changes.
Due to S1 neve indentation.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The tingling and burning sensation at the back of the thigh is due to the minimal S1 nerve root indentation. This can be treated by regular back strengthening exercises and methylcobalamin supplements. You can get your Vitamin B 12 levels evaluated and get the proper dose adjusted by your orthopedician as per the report.
The slight indentation on S1 on the left side can also be taken care of with the help of oral muscle relaxants. However regular back exercises like swimming will help in preventing the recurrence also.
I hope this answers your query.

Thanks for the reply.
And I drink approx 500 ml milk everyday. And I don't see any symptoms of vitamin B 12 deficiency like tiredness or bleeding gums.
I have been doing back strengthening exercises regularly over the last 1.5 years but still the burning sensation persists.
Please let me know if the nerve root indentation has become permanent?
Will the nerve ever heal ?
Thanks

Consult a neurologist.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Vitamin B12 deficiency presents with tingling and numbness that you are having. The nerve root indentation is there. It can be reversed only with exercise and after surgery. Right now since you have very minor symptoms the surgery is not needed. Vitamin B 12 supplements in proper dosage will help you. You can consult a neurologist regarding this.
Hope my answer is helpful.
