What Does My MRI Scan Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 6 Oct 2016
Question: An MRI reports that I have a prominent CSF space superiorly probably representing cortical atrophy. Please explain this to me.

Thank you. Dr. Spahn, I read a lot about this before asking you. I was very concerned about the possibility of dementia. I found your response to be terse. Your wording, "old people", I found insensitive! My father is 97; I do not believe that the age of 71 need be referred to as "old". Respectfully, XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Welcome back,

My only intention was to explain to you that as we ALL age, our brains loose gradually their cells leaving more space for cerebrospinal fluid accumulation, so, it is mainly a nearly normal finding.

I hope you'll understand.
