What Does My NT Scan Test Report Indicate?
Question: Hi Doctor,
I am currently at 13 weeks pregnancy. I had an NT scan just yesterday. From the report I can find that my placenta position is posterior low. Can you please confirm me, if I have to worry about this. Also, can you suggest me on proper precautions for low lying placenta, especially does having sex will cause this.
Thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:
low lying placenta
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to hcm,
LOW LYING PLACENTA in early scans is not much of a concern actually as the position tends to change any 32 weeks and there occurs climbing of placenta on uterus as it grows towards term. The minimum distance of placental margin from the os , at 32 weeks should be more than 25mm to exclude placenta previa.
At present , yes intercourse should be avoided till about 20 weeks when the pregnancy has grown substantially and there are no chances of threatened abortion or any placental bleed as placenta too matures by then.
You may follow up with your NT scan report for localising distance from the internal os.
Regards

Thanks for your advise. Also, can you suggest me what precautions are necessary for a normal delivery other than Cessarian.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
The criteria for normal delivery are many and decided by 38-40th week when you are already term or have gone in labour, that is when the position of the baby os checked and your pelvic adequacy is examined and these are initial two criterias for normal delivery. Then you may be either given a trial or you can go in labour. Then there are intrapartum factors like asynclitism, poor uterine contractions, fetal distress which can be indications for c-section and normal delivery procedure can then be aborted. So there are actually no precautions per se for normal delivery.
