Brief Answer:
Knee replacement is needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Bone on bone appearance on the knee suggests a severe arthritis that is not likely to improve with injections or medicines. It is best to get a knee replacement done. It will reduce the pain after the surgery and your knee will have a better mobility.
Plastic is not strong enough to form a durable knee implant. The type of implant best suitable for you can be decided by your surgeon after a detailed examination. Do follow your orthopedician's advise regarding the implant needed.
I hope this answers your query.
