How Does Tobacco Interact With Arthritis?

I have a brother in-law who likes to smoke a pipe and chew tobacco, he is also a little overweight and now has severe arthritis but refuses to go to the doctor. My question is how does the tobacco interact with his arthritis. What are worst things that could happen he is in his mid 50s thank you

Hello,

You should know that smoking leads to higher levels of inflammatory proteins called cytokines in their body. These play a role in the joint and organ damage that comes with RA. Tobacco smoke causes the body to release all kinds of cytokines linked to inflammation in arthritis. For this reason, I would recommend avoiding smoking as it may lead to arthritis worsening.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
