What Does My Blood Test Report Indicate?

1. Renal Function Test : Calcium is low at 8.40 mg/hl ( range 8.50- 10.5) - for the last few days, I am having pain in my left shoulder muscles ( regular) and also in left leg ( not regular though)
2. RBC count : 5.15 m/cumm ( range 3.5 - 5.0)
3. MCH : 32.80 pg
4. MCHC : 36.50 ( 32-36%)
5. MONOCYTES - 134 ( cells/Cu mm) ( range 200 - 1000) - This is what is making me most worried)
6. Fasting Sugar level is higher at 124.10 - cause of worry. It used to be always below 100. But I had some sweets last night
7. LDL cholestrol is 164 ( HDL is 56) - cause of worry

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on Health care magic.
I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. The reports are not concerning.
* The monocyte count does not matter. It is not a cause for concern.
* Get your blood HbA1c level checked. It indicates a 3 monthly average of blood sugar control. Based on the report further steps can be taken.
* LDL level is raised although the HDL level is good. You need to follow up with this level and based on the control you might need to be treated with statins like atorvastatin.
* The calcium level is not a cause for concern. Take juicy fruits like citrus fruits, and bananas. They contain plenty of potassium which will help the shoulder muscles to relax. Also apply hot compress.

Many thanks for your quick and re-assuring response.
I have noted all points but would like to just seek clarification on the following 2 points :
A - LDL level is raised although the HDL level is good. You need to follow up with this level and based on the control you might need to be treated with statins like atorvastatin.
Q - While I do understand I will need to take controlled diet and regular exercise regime, is there anything else to be done at this point of time. If not, when should I ideally get my next blood test done to see the progress
A. The monocyte count does not matter. It is not a cause for concern.
Q. - I heard somewhere that low monocyte count could mean low fighting power against cancer or presence of cancer. I hope this information is not true.
Best regards
Rohit

Detailed Answer:
Let me try to answer your questions.
* Discuss with your doctor whether he suggests taking statins like atorvastatin or rosuvastatin. My suggestion would be in favor of taking statins. I would not expect improvement in subsequent blood test as genetic factors are likely to be involved more than dietary factors. Nevertheless, a follow up test should be done at an interval of 3 months.
* I do not think that you need to be bothered about the monocyte count. The monocyte count in blood does not reflect the actual count of monocytes. They have the capacity to crawl into tissue spaces by a process called diapedesis. When they have a role to play, their numbers can rise automatically. I would not be concerned about it.
