What Does My Blood Test Report Indicate?
Question: Dear Doctor, I have been having sudden dizzy spells every day for the last month. I also have a minor sore throat. Had brain ct scan, eye test and cardio exam which all came back normal, despite a polyp in the maxillary sinus. My worry is my CBC as in a week apart there has been considerable change in my platelet count (240 to 175), my white blood cells (7.6 to 9.6), my neutrophils (4.446 to 6.82), my lymphocytes (2.60 to 1.70) and monocytes (0.4 to 0.9). Everything still falls within normal range but the change is worrying me. Everything else on blood test is normal. Should I be worried by this variation of a week?
Brief Answer:
Not at all.

Hi xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist, here to answer your queries.
The answer to your query is straightforward. No..You should be least bothered about the values till they fall in normal range. Values may change in samples, taken even a few hours apart and they usually vary from lab to lab even in the same sample.
Hope that helps. If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up else please close the thread, rate it and write a review.

Thanks Doctor for your precious help! The absolute value is in normal range but I see that the percentage is not (lymphocyte 17%, monocytes 0.9% and neutrophils 71%), does that make a difference?
Also, I have several lymph nodes in my neck on both sides including one quite big, but they have been like that for at least 8 years as far as I can remember. The big one got really enlarged after an infection at that XXXXXXX and decreased when I got my tonsils out, however it is still prominent. They are all soft to the touch and relatively XXXXXXX Is this something to be worried about? Also considering my CBC?
Basically I am terrified it might be lymphoma and I have had it for over 8 years.e

Brief Answer:
Peripheral smear/FNAC
Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx,
Thanks for being in follow-up.
I think you can get your CBC repeated from one of the best labs near you.Percentages which you have mentioned are not of significant concern.
Further, a peripheral smear can be done for looking for abnormal blood cells and a FNAC(Fine needle aspiration cytology) of lymph node can be done to know its nature.
Hope that helps. If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.

Thank you Doctor.
The brain ct scan concluded as normal and without specificities. However in the description it notes millimetric hypodensities under the putamen bilaterally which aspects indicate virchow-robin spaces.
I had a previous scan 5 years ago which did not indicate anything along those lines.
How come the conclusion was therefore normal?
I read on internet that these spaces can be actually ischemic lacunes, sign of an ischemic attack.
Does it warrant doing an mri scan?
Thank you in advance

Brief Answer:
MRI may be done.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for being in follow-up.
Although, prominent virchow XXXXXXX spaces can be seen normally as well and is not a disease as such. However, if you are concerned about the nature of those hypodensities,a MRI brain can be done.
However, prominent virchow XXXXXXX spaces do not count for an abnormal scan.
Hope that helps. If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up else please close the thread, rate it and write a review.

Thank you very much Doctor!
Is it possible that they were not visible some years ago?
If these hypodensities are not virchow-robin spaces, could they be the cause of my dizziness ie could it be ischemic attacks? Basically I am often dizzy during the day, every day, and notably when in front of computer or in bed. Sometimes, they are sudden and very violent as if I would lose consciousness.
Eye exam normal, cbc ok, heart control too except high blood pressure.
Basically my main concern are these findings on the ct scan, though conclusion was normal.
I would do mri though my doc says not necessary, would be only to reassure me. But quite expensive so Id like to know if it is warranted to do.
Thanks in advance,
All the best,

Brief Answer:
These are not likely to be the cause of dizziness.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for being in follow-up.
No, these should not be the cause of your symptoms.Even I feel, that MRI will be more of a diagnostic and reassurance thing.
Hope that helps. If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.
