Question: Just had aCXR which showed a chest infection and now on a course of amoxycillin.Also shown was small symmetrical lower zone opacities,which are likely to represent nipple shadows-due for another CXR in three weeks.stopped smoking 15 years ago.What could be the cancer risk

Bilateral, small symmetrical opacities in lower lung fields are most likely nipple shadow. However if you are very anxious, you may get a CT chest done to rule out any other pathology.
Risk of cancer is definitely heightened with smoking and it increases proportionately with the number and years of cigarette smoking.
If you are cancer free now, it`s advisable that you go for regular check ups from time to time and if you develop any chest symptoms, you should consult a pulmonologist as soon as possible.
