Question: Hi,

I has posted a question earlier this week and accidentally closed it out. I had a colposcopy on Friday and was fine after. I did a 6 mile run on sunday and felt crampy (pms like) afterward. It is now almost a week later and i feel like i am getting symptoms tht feel like trigonitis, something i was diagnosed with years afo but comes and goes. Could this be an infection? I eill be traveling tomorrow and dont know if i should go to the doctor todat.

Brief Answer:
Yes it could be infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query,
I have gone through your details and i appreciate your concerns.

Most likely you are having a urinary tract infection right now though symptoms can also be due to trigonoitis which you were diagnosed earlier. Its very difficult to differenciate urinary tract infection from cystitis or trigonitis just on the basis of history as most of the symptoms and presentation of patient is usually overlapping.
Initially i would suspect it as urinary tract infection.A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection that affects part of the urinary tract. When it affects the lower urinary tract it is known as a bladder infection. Most commonly involved bacteria is escherichia coli.Colonoscopy destroys the gut flora and increases risk of harmful bacteria reaching the urinary tract at the time of procedure.

Initially i would suggest you to go for
Urine routine and microscopy test (to rule out if infection is there or not.
A ultrasonogram KUB to see if it is trigonitis or cystitis etc.

As of now-
Start taking Antispasmodic like Flavoxalate 100mg thrice daily with anti inflammatory like Diclofenac 50 mg twice daily(Get a prescription).
Drink plenty of water 3-4 litres.
As you are travelling tomorrow keep a broad spectrum antibiotic like Cefixime or Azithromycin handy with you.

Its always better to contact a doctor at the advent of intial symptoms.
Don't forget to keep meicines with you while travelling.

Follow up with reports.
I wish you a very happy, healthy and safe journey.

Sorry. It was a colposcopy - looking at my cervix because of an abnormal pap. I am worried the procedure led to an infection .

Brief Answer:
Folow up.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
Yes recent history of colposcopy is highly suggestive of infection.Though every instrument is properly sterilised yet any external thing inserted in closed atmosphere of our body can act as a possible source of infection.
Go for the urine test and start analgesic antispasmodic and antibiotic therapy dear.
You will feel much better in a day or two.

It's infection(most likely Escherichia coli).

I wish you fast recovery.
