Posted on Thu, 9 Jul 2015
Question: the following is a doctor write up following my cystoscopy. can you please provide another opinion? and/or translate this for me into easy to understand resolution.
thank you in advance.

cystourethroscopy procedure:
anterior urethra appears normal.
prostate is age appropriate and not significantly enlarged
prostate mucosa appears normal
posterior wall of the bladder just to the left of midline, there is a small patch (2-3mm) where the mucosa appears blanched and almost white. edges are well demarkated and there is a subtle almost submucosal appearance.
hyperplasia, metaplasia, or leukoplakia would be among the differential diagnosis.
remainder of bladder walls appear smooth. no gross papillary tumors seen. no visible stones.

Read detail answer below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have undergone endoscopic examination of bladder (Cystoscopy) and detected to have a patch of the size of 2-3 mm on bladder mucosa.

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem
1) Do you have urinary symptoms?
2) Do you have hematuria(Blood in urine)?
3) What was the indication for doing cystoscopic examination.?

The white patch with sharply demarcated border is Leukoplakia which is always secondary to chronic irritation or inflammation of bladder mucosa .

There are 20% chances of this Leukoplakia getting transformed into cancer of the bladder .Hence one has to monitor the progress of the disease by frequent clinical examination and Cystoscopic evaluation with urine cytology every 3-4 months.

Since the patch is just 2-3 mm in size there is nothing to be worried about.

Take antibiotic and anti inflammatory medication like Diclofenac twice daily for 2-3 weeks with long term prophylactic antibiotic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask me I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards.
