Question: ENODOCRINOLOGY
Dear Doctor,
I am very much confused the way the messges coming through Whatasapp regarding the diet for diabetics. So many people are posting- dont eat this. dont eat that, this is good and this is bad for diabetics. As far as I am concerened I am 74 years old and had type ii diabetes since 2012. My fasting blood sugar most of the time is above normal i.e110. The level oscillates between 110 to 130.Regarding Post lunch most of the time it is within the normal limits. i.e less than 140.It oscillates between 120 to 150.I take moderate foo night i take 2 thin chapaathis.I read that we the diabetic should not eat chapathis and they are harmful .My problem is then what should i take for dinner? i dont know.I take glycomet 500 mg twice a day. How to reduce my fasting level below 100 . the other day i got lab test done and the fasting is 134 and 147 and Hb A1 c is 6.7. Before my cataract op in April the fasting level is 166 (lab report), but the doctor has said that it is normal for the people of my age.Though i know that the A1 c is under normal limits, but i am not able to contain the fasting level.what to do? I am strictly a vegetarian. Kindly show me some way
to get rid of this confusion. I am not able to upload the file , hence I am pasting it here. Sorry.

Brief Answer:
You can take oats or broken wheat porridge at night.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM

I have gone through your query and reports with diligence. Your fasting glucose level is slightly more. Chappatis also can cause hyperglycemia.
You can take oats or broken wheat porridge for dinner. Also better to make your dinner earlier. Include vegetable salads for dinner also. This will be helpful to control fasting glucose level. If that is also not helping then you need to make adjustments in medication.
I also recommend brisk walking early in the morning at least for half an hour daily continuous. This will help to reduce your hba1c levels. After 3 months of these measures you can recheck your hba1c.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.

Then upma or dry Chappatis are ok to have. Take vegetable salads along with it.
Doing squatting exercise and abdominal muscle exercises are good to get your sugar under control.
