Brief Answer:
Surgery should be done to prevent kidney from further destruction

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. I have reviewed your son's report and it shows left kidney multicystic, dysplastic and non functional. However, her right kidney is also showing dilated pelvicalyceal system which means that the ureter is constricted from somewhere.Usually, unilateral multicystic kidney is associated with some anomaly in the contralateral renal system like obstruction, stricture etc.

This gross pelvicalyceal system dilatation can slowly lead to thinning of the cortex of the kidney, leading to its decreased function and gradual destruction.

Surgery should be done to correct the ureteral narrowing and thus prevent further destruction of the right kidney, but blood urea and creatinine should be measured to assess the kidney function.

Hope you found the answer helpful. Please do get back for further queries.
Wishing you both good health.
Regards,
Dr Neeraj Kumar
