What Does My Lab Test Report Indicate?

Posted on Fri, 21 Apr 2017
Question: Hi Sir , My Wife got Hepatitis E during 7th Month of pregnancy. She underwent 15 days of hospitalization & got discharged yesterday when Bilurubin levels started showing downward trend from 16 to 12 & enzymes dropped to normal range. However one things Doctors are worried about in her elevated TLC's level which are hovering between 19,000 & 21,000 till now. Before hospitalization it was 12,000. Her HB level is 8.5. Haptaglobin & DCT tests are normal. Doctors are unable to find out reason for elevated TLC's. This is her 2nd Pregnancy & she is having thyroid , Gest. Diabetes ( in control now) & thalassemia trait from first pregnancy 4.5 year back. Please let me know reason for high TLC's.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to an infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
I have seen the attached report. During pregnancy the raised count of TLC can be due to a bacterial infection. This can be raised in response to the recent hepatitis infection she had. Since her rest of the enzymes have come back to normal it is best to monitor her for any fever or vaginal discharge. in case this is normal then you can wait and get the test repeated after 2 weeks to see if the counts are gradually coming back to normal.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
Will not affect the baby.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
This will not affect the baby as she has recovered. The blood counts will gradually come back to normal. She needs to take a low protein and fat free diet to recover fast from hepatitis.
Hope my answer is helpful.
