default
Posted on Mon, 4 Jan 2016
Question: My sons Bilirubin and SGPT and SGOT are as below.

Date of Test: 1st December, 2015
Total Bilirubin - 4.0 mg/dL
Direct Bilirubin - 1.0 mg/dL
SGPT - 27 U/L
SGOT - 29 U/L

Date of Test: 5th December, 2015
Total Bilirubin - 2.1
Direct Bilirubin - 0.8
SGPT - 22
SGOT - 20

Date of Test: 9th December, 2015
Total Bilirubin - 2.9
Direct Bilirubin - 0.9
SGPT - 50
SGOT - 64

The last test done today indicates a sudden increase in SGPT and SGOT compared to the earlier tests. Kindly let me know if these are a cause for concern.

Brief Answer:
This is not concerning

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
This is not worrying at this point since this is considered to be just slight liver enzymes elevation which is probably temporary due to alcohol intake, smoking or certain medications Also, it can be caused by gallbladder stones. Spme more serious causes are rare in your age, but should be considered if results will grow progressively so I suggest to repeat test in 3-4 weeks. if there is still elevation you should do liver ultrasound and check viral markers. Wish you good health. Regards
