What Does My Pure Tone Audiogram Indicate?
Question: My daughter in law has decreased hearing in both ears ( about 60%). doctors tecommended operations on the hammer area, others say use hearing aides

1. The audiogram shows bilateral otosclerosis.
2. The choice of treatments are:
a. Medical treatment with sodium fluoride to prevent further deterioration.
b. Routine hearing aids.
c. Stapedectomy operation.
d. BAHA (Bone Anchored Hearing Aid).
3. There us usually a further decrease in hearing after pregnancy.
4. None of these treatments can reverse the otosclerotic process. They can only help the patient hear better.
