Question: Hello, I've been having irregular bleeding for some time now so I underwent a transvaginal ultrasound and all was normal and an endometrial biopsy. I got my biopsy report back and the nurse said the dr recommended a hysteroscopy to remove some polyps but didn't say how many, etc and I was wondering if this surgery is necessary? Thank yoU!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Health Care Magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.

The polyps are usually seen on ultrasound. But you have written that it was normal. It would be helpful if you can upload the ultrasound and biopsy report.

If the doctor says you have polyp, you probably have one small polyp. Otherwise transvaginal ultrasound would have shown it. Hysteroscopy and removal of polyp is necessary to treat the irregular bleeding that you have.

I hope this is helpful.
If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.

Best Wishes,
Dr Rama

Ty Doctor, the sonogram showed no polyps or fibroids but the nurse called and said the biopsy showed polyps so I am confused. I will try to get the report, ty again!

Brief Answer:
Sometimes small polyps may be missed on ultrasound.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.

Sometimes small polyps may be missed on ultrasound.
Since the biopsy is reported as polyp your doctor wants to do hysteroscope to remove any polyp tissue left behind. Don't be worried. It is a simple procedure. This will help cure the irregular bleeding.

If you have further concerns, do write to me.
Best wishes,
Dr Rama
